چکیده

Monitoring is necessary for an adaptive management approach and the successful implementation of ecosystem management. In this document, we present an approach to monitoring biological diversity at different levels of ecological organization: landscape, community or ecosystem, population or species, and genetic. Our approach involves identifying monitoring questions derived from regional, provincial, or watershed assessments ; identifying monitoring methods; and analyzing and interpreting data to integrate into management strategies. Examples of monitoring methods, data analysis, and interpretation are provided for each level of ecological organization, beginning with the most inclusive level, the landscape. Our objective is to provide land managers with an approach and examples to develop biodiversity monitoring strategies. Abstract Contents

Myocardial perfusion SPECT: Perfusion quantification

Different software tools for quantification of myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) studies are routinely used. Several perfusion parameters can be computed automatically.  Interpretation of the MPS should start with visual inspection of the rotating planar images, visual analysis of reconstructed SPECT slices and then quantitative analysis to confirm the visual impression. Quantification should be...

Interpretation of Tropical Vegetation Using Landsat Etm+ Imagery

Monitoring of tropical forest is important as it plays a vital role in Global biodiversity and terrestrial carbon dynamics. Remote sensing can be effectively used to monitor the tropical vegetation. However, an operational tool for interpretation and monitoring of tropical forest has not yet well developed. Therefore, the current study aimed to generate an interpretation key and a spectral libr...

A Niche-Based Framework to Assess Current Monitoring of European Forest Birds and Guide Indicator Species' Selection

Concern that European forest biodiversity is depleted and declining has provoked widespread efforts to improve management practices. To gauge the success of these actions, appropriate monitoring of forest ecosystems is paramount. Multi-species indicators are frequently used to assess the state of biodiversity and its response to implemented management, but generally applicable and objective met...

Habitat Quality Analysis of Natura 2000 Riparian Forests

Riparian forests are sensitive habitats with a rich biodiversity and an important function as corridors for movement of wildlife. In Europe, many of these precious habitats are protected sites within the Natura 2000 network, where monitoring results have to be reported every six years. Satellite imagery provides key benefits for monitoring nature protection areas where political borders, rough ...

Biodiversity Monitoring in Changing Tropical Forests: A Review of Approaches and New Opportunities

Tropical forests host at least two-thirds of the world’s flora and fauna diversity and store 25% of the terrestrial above and belowground carbon. However, biodiversity decline due to deforestation and forest degradation of tropical forest is increasing at an alarming rate. Biodiversity dynamics due to natural and anthropogenic disturbances are mainly monitored using established field survey app...
